IBF in another
Challenge night against clubs.
In the run up to the Youth
Challenge on Sat 12th a late arrival came in time as the Erewash Valley Methodist and
Education Youth Circuit held a sports event at the Heanor Leisure Centre, in fact they
hired the centre for two hours. Events included Volleyball, Basketball, Unihoc,
Football and Swimming, anyone in the circuit could go and either swim, or play (or both).
They also wanted to get teams together for a Knockout tournament in the three sports, and
that's were we came in. Teams mixed from BIG F and YF entered the tournament. The members
that went were, from YF Ivan, Gareth, Simon, Jamie, Michael and Colin. From BIG F were
Mark J, Adam E, Alex H, Jonathan F, Ian K, Mark G and Michael S.
Clubs from Langley Mill, Erawash, Ilkeston, and others took part in the Sports Special,
around 60 people attended including some parents who stayed to watch.
First to come was 5-a-side football. As there were allot of members wanting to do football
it was unfortunate that some teams had to mix with others, yet some clubs managed to have
there own teams of 5 like ours, Ian Kitchen, Alex Havil. Jonathan Ford, Adam Elfleet and
Mark Jefferies in goal - who made some good saves -, they played a team from another club which included Mark Gregory. The final score
was 2 all with Alex scoring both goals and all showing skill as well as having fun, the
match lasted for 10 min yet it was 5 min of good attempts and action before the first
goal. Adam had the last 4-min in Goal as the other side swapped goal a number of times.
The whistle went and the next two teams came on. Langley Mill and another mixed
team again gave a good fair and fun game, Michael Sowersby was with Langley Mill with a
lot of support from BIG F supporters. Fun was mixed with teamwork from all players.
When finished Basketball took over, remember there was only 5 min between change of teams
and games, not enough time for some to relax as many took part in all sports. Well
basketball took off with a kind of David v's Goliath match, Alex, Ian, Jonathan, Adam and
two others from another group took on the giants from Erawash, yet the advantage was that
the two from the other group were tall and the size of the others (6 foot). Five against 6
may sound wrong but in size and skill it was fair, yet fair play with fun and excitement
was played from both teams. Big F played well despite the difference and having some good
tackles and attempts with Ian Kitchen managing to get one goal with the tall player
scoring the rest. After 5/10 min a change of sport was made, the score well a few lost
count but it was close. The next match was also our match as we had our YF team in who
played well against Langley Mill and against us. Again great fun, excitement and
skill from all.
Well the next match (Unihoc) was almost double the fun and excitement with chaos as nearly
all took part, well 20 a side that is, all with the skill and chaos of remembering of
who's on who's side, even spectators were confused.. Even more were those who weren't use
to this kind. Yet there was a lot of skill and attempts, plus saves and goals from Alex,
Mark and other Clubs, all making it a fair, fun and exciting game.

After 10 min football was to come, even though the ref says 4 teams can be made, it ended
up nearly all playing, this timealmost all, 25 a side is proberly stretching it a bit, yet
still a good, fair, skilful and chaos game with plenty of fun and excitement as all went
for the ball. With good saves from all and takcles, with a brillant save from Mark
Greggory which had spectators clapping and cheering.
10 min of chaos had almost come to an end, basketball mostly finished off the night
before all starting to make there way back home, with the heavy rainfall to greet
them.
