Youth Challenge 97
-
IBF consisted of two teams - Football Team - Ian Kitchen, Jonathan Ford, Andrew
Wilkinson, Paul Milner and Ian Fisher in Goal.
It was a sporty atmosphere at the Albion on Sat 12th July as the 3 clubs joined together
for the challenge, Nuthall made two teams along with one from BIG F, 1 from YF and St
Andrews along with team names.
For a quick summery, BIG F and Ilson Pensioners were slightly disadvantaged with size and
skill but played well against Nuthall, with some good attempts and saves, even though
Nuthall dominated the match. Yet it all seemed to go well even after the slight mix up,
but everyone co-operated and took part with fair play and skill from everyone. The
Challenge lasted for 2 hours with each match lasting for 6 min. (10 matches).
Yet there was certainly the old St Andrews v Nott's Rd feeling as they met, yet this was
to be the ultimate match with a different feel, ending and way. With Andrews, Nott's Rd
and BIG F coming in the 3rd, 4th and 5th place and Nuthall 1st and 2nd Place.
There were a number of BIG matches, such as the first which was Red Pits v Ilson
Pensioners. In the past Andrews and Nott's Rd have always played a fair and good match
with Andrews mostly winning, plus never on a full court like this, so this was to be
different in many ways and was, a good, fair and skill game with 1 goal from both sides
leaving it 1 all.
The second BIG match was another clash BIG F and Ilson Pensioners which was to full max.
with plenty of play, fair and skill including good attempts and saves, with Ian Kitchen
managing to score a goal for BIG F, this was proberly the easiest of all matches.
Red Pits beating BIG F 1-0
The third big match I'll mention together as basically we lost against both Nuthall teams,
with the exception of a one goal against them, , but this was the highlight of the night,
though BIG F I think were caught out with team arrangements and skill. Loosing 3-0 was the
score against Trousers (Nuthall 1) and 2-1 against Pants (Nuthall 2), both were enjoyable
and a fun match with skill and determination by some players despite Nuthall dominating
most of the matches. Though there were comments from Spectators about some of the players
from BIG F - such as Andrew Wilkinson -, who showed determination and skill.
Coach comments - Was a skilful and hard challenge for all especially BIG F, and with the
absent of Alex Havill and Mark Jefferies it was proberly harder, with the two players it
could have been another story. Despite the gap the team made up with team work. The night
was enjoyable and fun as well as team effort from all clubs. The spectator side was not as
expected, but all made a good effort
Well done all
