THE AMBERGATE EXPERIENCE AT CANAL COTTAGE

REVIEW SPECIAL

FRI. 7:15pm Ambergate/Matlock

On 1st July all BIG F and Youth Fellowship members once again were invited to a feast of activity on a weekend break in Ambergate, at Canal Cottage. Around 13 people went on Friday night, leaving Sunny Ilkeston at approximately 7:00, arriving around 7:30pm. After settling in, and a tour round, it was a drive down to Matlock Bath, and a free steady walk around, everyone got back at the cottage for 10:00, where all members either watched TV, Practised on the Guitar (Ian and Paul B) or played around. All this took to 12:00am when every one finally went to bed.

SAT 9:00am - Carsinton Waters Adventure

At a fixed time of leaving at 9:30am, no one woke till around 8:45, everyone had breakfast and got ready for Carsinton Waters. We left around 10:15, (after Jane turned up), and arriving at carsingtom around 11:00, we then had a look at what was on offer. After a few minutes, 5 on a 2hr Cycle Ride around the Waters, ups and downs, (Ivan, Gareth, Dave, David S and Paul P). The 4 girls including Ian and Paul B went canoeing. While Jane and Helen relaxed?

After 2 hrs cycling (11:45 - 1:45) they returned to base, tired and hot, and the canoers - 1hr on the cold water, (they didn't start till the 12:15 session), returned to the bench - either exhausted or soaking wet through -, for packed lunch around 2:00pm.

After a few talks all 10 decided they wanted to go back, canoeing, (this time with wet suites (some anyway)), the session was at 4:00. So the other 3 did a bit of shopping (Paul P, Helen and Jane) via a small visit, and a sad disappointment for Jane, as M? (tennis player) lost and left in the ladies Wimbledon finals (bad luck Jane). Anyway back to success. After all the shopping, canoeing + laughter we all arrived back to the car, some dry and warm others slightly wet and cold. We arrived back at the Cottage around 6:00pm.

From then on it was preparation time for tea, and others who didn't help spent it relaxing, guitar practising or yes you have guessed it Water fight – again -. After dinner every one got ready, as well as a few more water fights, for the 3rd night stalker - the real battle - the real battle -. At 10:00 the battle began, everyone wore dark clothes, and group 1, equipped with only water pistals and tourches, were defending, the 5 beacons (around the cottage), they used all methods of defending (high marks for defending), the attackers (group 2) tried there best, but were defeated. After 30 mins (11:20pm) the game changed, (group 1 attacked, the other defend) and the situation was also different, the attackers succeeded in getting all but one beacon , 2 beacons were later invalid, (bad luck, but high marks for all that took part). David was unable to give a prize for the winners, but gave a speech on how good both teams were. But there were a few complaints and comments about Both the Defending groups leader, Ian Slater (who to make numbers even decided to lead the defenders, plus SAFETY. Everyone finally got to bed around 12:45

SUN 8:45am - Black Rock, and Home

Breakfast was at 9:00am after every one finally wroke up. After, we went to Black Rock. All went different ways, but all ended on top of the rocks relaxing in the still warm air, and enjoying the scenery. At 12:15pm it was back to base. Ian set the bar-B-Q alight with wood, and soon around 1:30 food was cooked, served by Paul P and David and eaten, then it was time to pack and clean up, still last minute water fights and soakings were made, everyone got there own back on Ian, who went into the canal, followed by the unexpected GARETH

Hidden Scenes

Hidden Scenes and words

On Sat Morning the breakfast was Cereal, Sausage, Bacon, Toast and Eggs, You may ask why I have mention eggs last or the breakfast, well if you want to know, Ian Slater your great chef ?, was cooking the eggs, the first took 5 min to SCRAPE out of the pan, the other 4, well lets say Good By, for I think it had just been cremated, is what some said. On Sunday he did make one egg right (one out of 8) Bad luck Ian, no eggs for us.?

On Sunday after the Bar-B-Q, a photograph was taken of the group by one of the leaders, but a word NOW was heard and splash came next as the plan to wet Ian went ahead, all pushed Ian into the canal, followed by gareth. a proper picture was taken.

A message from Jane, always watch were you stand on the edge of the canal, for holes may lurk beneath long grass, good job it wasn't Black Rock. yes Jane nearly did go in. David was waiting for 999 Special (the programme)

Nearly every one got a bit wet, some got soaked, many dirty, especially Paul Barfield who loves water, ????. Everyone got revenge, some even got hit by flying socks, or had fried shocks ??, and many other things, some a bit bumpy and this is only at the Cottage. But everyone enjoyed themselves. Many other things happened but you'll have to listen for this is just brief, or too long for publication..
