The best music 2002

Oxygen

The Oxygen story began on 3 March 2001, at Luton Churches Evangelical Trust's offices in Luton. Youth for Christ (YFC) joined forces with, International Christian Communications (ICC), to recruit, create and produce to create the Britain's first ever Christian 'Popstars'.

Auditions for the band took place over two days, comprising interviews and examinations, to assess not only the candidates vocal and dancing abilities, but also their own personal beliefs and character.

With the band in place the final piece in the jigsaw was choosing name for the band. In selecting Oxygen, the band hope their listeners will make the link that the message in their songs is what we live and breath, the essence of life and God's recipe for living.

The formation of the band and their transformation from 'pop wannabes' into star performers and recording artists has generated huge interest in the both the Christian and secular media. A series on ITV's Sunday Morning programme gave the public a close up view of the Christian music industry, and the hard work behind the glamour of being a popstar. Appearances on BBC's Liquid News and Channel Four's Big Breakfast followed, as well as features in The Big Issue and The Daily Telegraph.

and they released their first single in October 2001 with a vision
