FRONTIER EXPERIENCE

2002

The Lighthouse (Sunday) Group finished there 2001-2002 season in style with an All Action and Adventure weekend at the Frontier Centre in Northamptonshire.

Its been almost 7 years since Lighthouse members when on an adventure holiday, since the Amber gate Experience in 1994 members have been enjoying holidays, weekend breaks with MAYC in London and Birmingham, MAYC Camp and MCV. Yet now we decided that its time for a change again, also since there was No MCV this year. So for our 1st LH Weekend away in 7 years and 1st for the 21st Century we ventured of to The Pioneer Centre in Northamptonshire, which is set in 120 acres of Ground, providing residential experiences which stimulate physical. Social and spiritual development. Staying in purpose built wooden lodges.

On site facilities included 2 sports pitches, floodlit all-weather pitch, nature trails and adventure area. They also provide professional qualified instructors for activities like Raft Building, Abseiling, Bridge Building and lots more.

We leaved at 4:00pm Friday arriving at the centre around 6:00pm after unpacking and a few things to sort out we all met for a briefing and welcome by the site/centre leaders.

The small cabins where small with room for 8 bunk beds inc 2 beds in a small upper space. Also a bathroom with shower. Small but will do for what was expected. 9 girls all slept in one, and the 2 boys and male leaders in the boy’s cabin.

The Friday night after the meeting was a B-B-Q, with burgers, hotdogs and salad. The members played with the ball while it was cooked, some even helped with the cooking. After we relaxed in the Lounge, with some talk, games, tuck shop and of laser quest. Before turning in for the night.

The next day was a warn and nice day which stayed for most of the day. After breakfast, workshop and a talk we set of (10:00am) to the centre for Abseiling. After a briefing we went over to the tower (this was high and outside) which was purposely made, here we where briefed and then climbed the 7 ladders to the top. Then Descended to the ground. The first was on a slight slope, there was also a vertical one which many had a go on. Some even managed to do a hand stand.

After two hours we all came to earth with two feet and then returned the equipment and returned to base for a light launch. After which most of the afternoon was Games, one was called Blind Trail, where members where blindfolded and had to follow a trail though trees and other obstacles. After which we played Frisbee golf, volleyball, water fights, before returning to base for tea. After the night was filled with fun, in the lounge we played games, including Table tennis, bowling, tuck shop, outside was mainly Frisbee and some rounders. The evening was mainly a campfire, where played games, drama, singing, and not forgetting Marshmallows. By time this was over it was 10:00 and we finished with games in lounge and talking.

Sunday morning was a fine day, with the odd drizzle, but it wasn’t to affect us as we when canoeing in the morning. After breakfast and a game, we headed to the briefing place for get equipped and shown instructions, before picking up the canoe and sailing down the canal. At 12:00 they returned wet and happy, after getting dry the rest of the day was relaxing, talking, getting packed and a hour of the adventure course, before returning to finish packing, tidying up and returning home by 6:00 that night.
